These two short stories have many similarities and differences . The stories took place in two completely different settings . Even though they were both in the Caribbean they had different cultures . Both islands were colonized by two different countries and they had different society's because of that the environment in these stories were also different . In '' cotton candy'' the setting is very different . Its in Cuba and there is a revolution going on . The country is communist and much more strict . Lola a lonely girl who dream about fantasy's all the time . I believed Lola only act needy because she feel that being needy will get her more attention. Actually being needy is not an attractive trait at all and it push it men away from her . Lola mom's authority over her makes her want try more stuff . The story '' little cog Burt '' is more focused on a Little black boy who's in pursuit of happiness . This story takes place in Dominica .In this story it states ''for the Christmas tree fairy !every year they made a new doll with a pink silk face and pleated cellophane dress''. This sentence slowly builds up and show the boy's love for the doll. It also states that ''this year the children were three thousand miles , invisibly and implacably growing away from childhood ''.During this time children in Cuba would go thousands of miles away for school and come home during summer break . Both of these stories resemble what the Caribbean life was like back then . Both author's are trying to tell us that living in the Caribbean can become very had , if you don't have any money.
